FORT WORTH ISD TO MERGE THE TWO ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS

With elections coming up we will be watching how our current members and those running against the incumbents tell us how they will deal with this ordeal.

It was brought to our attention that the district is proposing merging the Mid-Level 6-8 with the Metro 9-12.  As we know they completely lost credibility with the bond program and now they are affecting the students who need the most support.

Tell us board members to save a few million you will force grade levels of students that were sent there because they are "discipline concerns" but yet you fail to provide adequate resources and support to help them reintegrate back into their home schools.  NPR reported that in Fort Worth ISD, 40% of the discipline concerns are African American which is very disproportionate based on the demographics of the district.  So now you are going to do more harm to the very students that you say you will help?  So my Brother's Keeper has become another talking point that sounds good or will you make good on your promise to change things?

We ask the public to contact their board members and tell them that they are making a mistake by even thinking about it.  This goes to show that they have no priorities nor a willingness to help the most needy of our students.

So do tell us candidates, what would you do if presented with this situation as the sitting member?

  1. They want they want them (students) at Metro OUT of the Learning Network headquarters --- dont you know that's all apart of this master's plan. They don't care where they go, as long as the GOOOO!

  2. Does this really surprise anyone? You have a totally unethical racist and former Board President running around as "Citizens for Great Schools" supporting the likes of Jackson and CECELIA SPEER? LMFAO! Betty Brink (God love her) called it best when she referred to this Board as the Ship of Fools. This is another one of those Needham "get rich quick" scams. Sacrifice minority children in a K-12 criminal training center while Black Board Members sleep or eat through the meeting. Are they crazy? They are STILL burning through hundreds of thousands in legal fees on Palazzolo alone! THis is sad. C'mon Cole speak up! Ramos, stop chasing skirts for a minute. Where were you when this was proposed? Do we want to know?
And where was the "Waffler"? She has suddenly gone silent again.

  3. Since we can't 3rd party anyone, does it really matter?

  4. I wonder what the IRS thinks of "Big Ray" and his latest Ponzi scheme - "Citizens for Great Schools"? What a joke.

It's a good question since the process has been changed but no support for the behavior has been given to schools. You are told to keep them and that's it.. deal with it. So now they just want compound it all and let it be someone else's problem.

  6. Again, wheres the counseling? Ask anyone in the mental health field and they will tell you that it should start early! Yet elementary counselors aren't counseling! At least not at our school! Our counselor has only seen most classes two times for this entire school year. Is this happening at other elementary schools? Come on people wake up! You cannot continue to live in a bubble although I'm quite sure it's very comfortable there! When you go before God and we all will someday are you just going to say I'm sorry God I chose to live in a bubble

  7. I believe Metro has around 70 students and Middle level 110, so somebody is 3rd partying students. Or are you saying 180 kicked out of their home school is too few?

This is all fallout from the AHHS scandal and the Board trying to convince TEA they do not discriminate in discipline. Its a joke. Minority children in FWISD are "disposable". How many "connected" kids were third partied in the past five (5) years? Joe P. was one of the few to do so - including Needham's relative. Wonder if it was a Board directive or just from Needham that campuses dramatically reduce third party referrals.
Smoking or caught with Marijuana; weapons on campus; fighting; classroom disruption; threats to Teachers; etc. etc. we have to handle it on Campus. Go figure. We get direction from a bloated, inexperienced bureaucracy concerned with how they look. People wonder why we continue to fail. Meanwhile, big money continues to support the corrupt and inept while spending millions on fighting Joe P. and retaliating against other employees who report wrong. We see it everyday. And where are the voices in the community for the children? Every employee knows Speer is the WORST possible thing that could happen to the Board except for Jackson being re-elected - both apparently supported by Ray Dickerson (are you kidding?) and one even by UEA. But now Sutherland has gone silent - so where does that leave us? No voice. Like the Farrington Field deal this is just plain WRONG for kids. Much the same as spending millions on needless litigation to make yourselves look like something you are not: concerned about education.

You REALLY have no clue as to what is happening on campuses do you? A political question from someone worried about how they look. Pretty sad even we in Administration are reduced to anonymous blogging - SCREAMING for help from the community. Wake up parents to what this Board is doing to children and employees!!!

  10. Some Counselors are in their office with the door closed working on their advanced degree. Try finding one when you need one.

  11. So if more need to go then more resources and teachers are needed at the alternative schools, not less. I have a friend who says they got rid of teachers at Metro last year and they have only 13 left, so no wonder they can't have many kids. Some classes they used to offer were also removed I am pretty sure. Middle Level has been going to merge with various schools on and off for years.

  12. Here's my take on this issue....take me to the wiping post for being a bleeding heart. Most of the kids who get 3rd partied either in elementary or middle school are kids with undiagnosed learning disabilities. Not all of these kids are from families who "don't care about educating their kids". No matter the infraction, these kids are responding to feeling they are different and not able to follow along in a traditional classroom and/or they are being bullied by a classmate under the radar of the classroom teacher. Before you jump on me for saying this, let me tell you I have represented kids at 3rd party hearings. After the Joe P mess, what was evident to me was FWISD has a student code of conduct for the kids while I saw documentation after documentation demonstrating school officials ..... teachers, counselors, administrators ....running amok, having affairs amongst faculty, insubordinate, pilfering school funds, fighting amongst themselves,.....you name it. Yet were they 3rd partied like the students had been. What was evident was the Peter Principle was the motto of the day. The incompetent were promoted. One thing is certain. Whether a student is high achieving, average or low performing, they understand when there is an unfair, unequal protection under the "FWISD laws" (student code of conduct) when they witness adults misbehaving but treated to a different standard by the adults in authority. No wonder they chose to act out! Consider this in addition to the possibility of poor academic performance in the classroom due to an undiagnosed learning disability and/or parents who do not know their rights and safeguards and naturally you have a recipe for disaster. A real disconnect between learning and parental involvement and teachers with their hands tied to suggest academic evaluation of the student in question and you see and escalation of misbehavior in the classroom. We are investing taxpayer dollars in disciplinary actions rather than making attempts to get to the root of the issues affecting student learning. Labeling these kids as bad seeds is not the answer

  13. Out of 80,000 students ONLY 180 misbehaved? What a joke! You must be a director who wants more office space.

So it seems Ramos mistress works at metro. Guess that's the best hiding place where the forgotten go. But we don't forget. We will keep highlighting double standards every time.

What are you saying? I agree with YOU.

  16. It's my understanding that they are already merged.and the mid-level principal has moved over to Metro. How can anyone believe that putting troubled elementary and middle school kids with troubled high schoolers is a good idea. The obvious answer is someone that doesn't have a clue about what the students have done and why they are there and someone whose head is far south of their shoulders.

  17. Does the Metro board member agree with this move? Isn't he over Juvenile Detention Center?

  18. Campus Administrator, I don't think that it's sad that you're blogging but, I do think that it's sad that you cannot advocate for students and teachers. Do the right thing for all students and worrying about keeping your job you've already got it! Now do something with it! So many scared little egos terrified what downtown will say! HELLO??!?!? Maybe you won't get a directors position but perhaps you may improve learning on your campus!! Oooh what if it's not perfect? What if I look bad? Grow a pair! Nobody ever says damn they were trying too hard to make difference! Sometimes I really miss administrators like Carlos Vasquez! That's what he did and yes I suppose it cost him a promotion or two but I bet he sleeps like a baby!!!!!

  19. Do you even read before you comment? I think Campus Administrator was here to advocate. And the Fat Doctor? Do you even realize it was Needham who convinced that idiot to run for State Rep against Lon Burnham and even holed him up with financing - all just to get him off the Board. And his ego made him take it. He sold us all out.

  20. Yes Get Real I did read the comment. It's not that I don't appreciate the effort it's just that I'm saying HE/SHE SHOULD NOT WORRY about how they look. (Administrator's words not mine) look I know it's not easy going against downtown -Hell look at Palazzo! Here's what I do believe: it's not conceivable to do that to a team of administrators! BOE and Central Office get away with it because they count on nobody having the _____ to do what needs to be done. I mean can you name anyone that's ever stood up to them successfully? So much corruption but without some truely good administrators and upper mgt joining the cause, very little seems to get done. I know there's good administrators out there, perhaps the one who blogged??? As far as Carlos I think it's unfortunate that you didn't get to see the good he really did and taking shots at his size is really petty. It was a sad day when he left.

  21. This issue has not yet been brought to the board for a vote and the decision has not been made. I expect consideration in April. Let your board members know your feelings, and the existence of a viable alternative will help greatly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would not go as far as to say they have undiagnosed learning disabilities, but many of them can not read on grade level. That is our failure, not theirs. We can fix this, we know how-but we need support.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's not true either, there are a lot of positive things happening, and most are working very hard to use positive behavior supports. If you are being told to keep them, and that's it, that school needs some help.

  24. Thank you for this information. You can count on me to "bird dog" all of the issues related to the classroom and teacher/student supports and will explore all options to get the resources needed to put education back into the classroom. I could repeat the litany of the waste of education dollars but I would just be repeating myself. If I say I'll do it, you can count on my word. The changes needed are many and nothing will happen overnight but slow change is lasting change and that's what we need....lasting change.
